Check out the View! — Live

Have you checked out the "LIVE” web cam footage from the clubhouse that now streams directly onto the DYC website home page? Many thanks to Sean Darcy for setting this up for us. He also captured the live lightening strike in the picture.

lIghtening strikes — still image from the Hauraki Gulf Weather Cam

The camera works on a panning schedule to move from the Sea Scout hall to the city skyline and back to the Sea Scout hall every 2 hours at 12am, 2am, 4am, 6am, 8am, 10am, 12pm, 2pm, 4pm, 6pm, 8pm, 10pm daily. Takes about 16 minutes.

It takes in views of southern areas of the gulf including Maungauika volcano (North Head), Bean Rock, Motukorea Volcano (Browns Island), Tamaki Strait, Torpedo Bay, St Heliers Bay, Mission Bay, and East and Central Auckland. At night it faces the Auckland city skyline — why not project that image onto your TV screen in the evening?

During periods of interesting weather, marine wildlife or marine activities, the camera will pan to the area of heightened activity, day or night. So look out if you’ve left your fenders hanging as you pass, or your sails are flapping — even if no-one’s in the club to observe, you are on camera!

And here’s a thought for the future… remote starts using the web cam!
