At the first North Shore Regatta in 1881 he was on the committee, and every regatta since has had his support, and his seventy-ninth year finds him still about the waterfront following his (sic) fortunes of the boats competing for his cup.
His name is found on the first roll of membership of the RNZYS, and he as been a life member for some years now.
When this club, after being formant during th period of the war, was revived in 1923, Mr Duder showed his continued interest in the sport of yachting by donating to the newly-formed club the sum of 200 pounds. In appreciation of this gift the club resolved to provide the ‘Thomas John Duder Cup’ to be competed for annually, the winner to hold the cup for one year.
